Every now and then, we like to slow down with a weekend escape close to home, and this Fairmont Makati family staycation turned out to be exactly what we needed. We booked a King Room using our ALL Accor Plus Explorer membership, which helped us maximize the value of our stay, and then upgraded to Fairmont Gold for a more elevated experience.

The upgrade gave us access to the exclusive Fairmont Gold Lounge, where we enjoyed complimentary breakfast, afternoon refreshments, evening canapés and drinks, along with a quieter, more personalized atmosphere throughout our stay.

What was supposed to be a simple overnight stay became one of those weekends where slowing down turned out to be the highlight.

Right in the Heart of Makati’s Business District

Sitting at the heart of Makati’s Central Business District, the hotel is directly connected to Greenbelt and just a short walk from Glorietta, Landmark, and countless restaurants and cafés. Whether you’re planning a shopping trip, a food crawl, or simply want somewhere convenient for a weekend staycation, it’s hard to beat the location.

For families, this convenience makes a huge difference. We never had to think about driving from one place to another or dealing with Metro Manila traffic. Whenever we felt like going out, everything was just a pleasant walk away.

Our Fairmont Gold Experience

For this stay, we decided to upgrade our room to Fairmont Gold. We were originally planning a simple city staycation, but since we wanted this trip to feel a little more relaxing, we thought we’d give the Gold experience a try.

Looking back, we realized that we ended up spending almost as much time in the Gold Lounge as we did exploring Makati. Having access to a quieter, more private space made the stay feel slower and more relaxed. We started our mornings there with breakfast before heading out for a walk around the nearby malls, and after coming back, it became a nice place to take a break with coffee or light refreshments. Come evening, the lounge transformed with complimentary canapés and drinks.

If you’re deciding whether Fairmont Gold is worth the upgrade at Fairmont Makati, our answer is simple: if you value privacy, convenience, and those small indulgent touches, it absolutely is.

Lunch at Spectrum

Spectrum isn’t the kind of buffet that overwhelms you with a hundred stations and an endless spread just for the sake of it. The selection is fairly compact, but what’s there is genuinely well done. Every dish felt like it was actually cared for, rather than just mass-produced to fill a tray. For us, that’s always the better trade-off — we’d rather have fewer, well-executed dishes than a huge spread where half of it is forgettable.

When the Rain Changed Our Plans

We’ll admit, the weather didn’t fully cooperate. It was a rainy day for most of our visit, so the pool — which we’d been looking forward to — had to wait for another trip.

We spent our time moving easily between our room and the Gold lounge, taking things slow, enjoying the food and drinks, and just being present without any rush to be somewhere. It was a good reminder that a great hotel stay isn’t only about the amenities you get to use — it’s also about how comfortable the space makes you feel when plans change.

Booking with ALL Accor Plus Explorer

For this Fairmont Makati family staycation, we booked our room using our ALL Accor Plus Explorer membership. It is a paid membership for Accor hotels in the Asia Pacific region. We stay at Accor properties fairly regularly, and over time we’ve found that the member rates and included benefits can make our stays better value.

For this trip, we booked our King Room through our membership before upgrading to Fairmont Gold. Like any hotel membership, whether it’s worth it really depends on how often you stay at Accor properties. For our family, it’s something we’ve been able to make good use of over the years.
